Nothing real about this Boy

PlayboyTV sent over the first three episodes of their new series The Boy Nexxt Door (Note: The title cards of the series itself are “The Boy NeXXXt Door,” but they must have run into some legal conflict with the name). From the press release, I was expecting something along the lines of MTV’s Made or other similar personal story docs. What I got was a laughable dramatization of supposed real events.

Danny is a young film student who wants to use his skills to be the next big thing in the adult entertainment field. Unfortunately, he has no money, no connections, and lives at home with his parents who (surprise) don’t approve of his newly chosen profession. The story follows Danny as he attempts to build his empire one short film at a time.

While PlayboyTV professes to produce and distribute “high quality entertainment for adults,” this is anything but. There’s nothing real here. The dialogue is badly scripted and the cutaway personal confessions are ridiculous. When Danny goes out to a club to entice women into working for him, we find ourselves in a local Edmonton bar, more than likely closed down for after-hours filming, with local actors (or locals pretending to be actors) playing his potential model pool. When Danny’s on the phone trying to tracking down the status of the camera he bought online from a fly-by-night dealer, it’s obvious there’s no one on the other end of the line. When Danny is trying to sneak one of his models out of the house after his parents come home, his mom is wearing the same outfit from the day before. Put this side-by-side with something like Little People, Big World and Jon and Kate plus 8 and you’ll quickly realize The Boy Nexxt Door is little more than a Canadian kid with a camera and his friends having fun. I’m not disputing the fact that these events may have actually taken place, but I can tell you for certain you’re not seeing them captured live.

Unconvincing bargain basement production values aside, there is one element of reality in The Boy Nexxt Door — the sex. I’m no prude, but it’s disturbing and irresponsible to show adult actors not wearing condoms during Danny’s filmmaking sequences. Not having had any other experience with PlayboyTV, I’m not sure if this is the exception or the rule, but in this day and age it’s the wrong message to send.

If you’re looking for a drunken MST3K experience with your friends on a Friday night, The Boy Nexxt Door may fit the bill. Other than that, keep changing the channel.

I guess if I thought reality meant real I’d be disappointed but the two episodes I saw were pretty funny. And I think adult actors wearing condoms are the exception not the rule. Even Vivid, the last big studio with a condom policy, has abandoned it. STD testing is the standard these days, not condoms.

I’ve always wanted to make adult movies myself so kudos to Danny for making it happen. How he turned shooting movies in his basement into a series on Playboy is a mystery to me but it’s brilliant marketing. I’ve already signed up at Harley’s site (that girl is special!) and I bet I’m not the only one. You have to give him credit for that.

This is more of FAKE reality played out as sexy… which it is not…

EVERYTHING is FAKE nowadays… Politicians.. Money.. People… so why should crap on TV be any less so?

“Danny” films the actors with their DNA-std tests so condoms (which suck and should never be used on film) are irrelevant.

The point is the action is WEAK… like most sex on Playboy it is so soft-core it is boring!

With the kind of fare available on the Internet I do not know how this is even remotely interesting…?

Finally the Danny character is dressed like such an EMO-fag is it painful to watch! In a few years he will undoubtedly be replacing idiots like ChiChi and produce the UNWATCHABLE garbage of prima-dona companies like Vivid!!

Sorry to tell you this but it is real. I could’t believe when my friend Danny got onto the playboy network. I remember being one of those girls sneaking out of his basement and I wasn’t even the one being filmed. He is pretty good at not getting caught by his mom too. And he couldn’t track down his camera that time which sucked cause he had a short dead line. AND just so you know Edmonton clubs would not allow him to go in after hours. So enless your ready to come to Edmonton, AB for a visit to see how he works, I would just sit back and shut up.
