The Truth is Out There

The X-Files at PaleyFest 2008I had the great pleasure of covering the Paley Center’s X-Files panel last night at the Cinerama Dome here in Los Angeles. I have a lot of material to share, but here’s a few quick hitters to get you started…

* The second film, premiering July 22, still has no title. Chris Carter (co-writer, director) knows what he wants it to be, but the Fox executives have their own ideas. The arm-wrestling continues.

* We saw the full trailer for the film… twice. The imagery is heavy on Billy Connolly and BSG’s Callum Keith Rennie, with some interesting shots of operating tables and medical ice baths. Mitch Pileggi was playing up his disappointment at not being let in on action.

* Frank Spotnitz (co-writer, producer) re-affirms the film is a pure stand alone adventure and derivative of the idea he and Chris originally had for the first film. The timeline reflects the six years that have passed since the end of the series and, while accessible to non-fans, the story honors everything that came before it… including an update on Baby William.

* Both Chris Carter and Lance Henriksen are interested in bringing Frank Black back to television or film. Chris has a few great ideas on how to do so, but discourages fans from getting their hopes up. “It’s a long shot.”

Plenty more insights to come. Stay tuned!
