Remember when Oscar was orange?

Yes, I am old enough to remember the early days of Sesame Street, when Oscar was orange, Big Bird had a tiny head, Gordon was played by Holly Robinson Peete’s father, Kermit was a frog on the street reporter, and Mr. Hooper owned the corner store. The legacy of Joan Ganz Cooney and Jim Henson is astounding, and these classic bits still bring a smile to my face.

Watching those videos made me happy; just as much as watching today’s Elmo-centered version of “Sesame Street” makes me sad. What a terrific show that used to be.

Oh my gosh, the singing orange with the rubber band mouth! Totally creeped me out yet amazed me when I was a kid. Ooh the alligator king! And the flea circus! Now if you can find me the milk song…
