ABC Fall 2008 Lineup

ABC has also announced its prime-time schedule for the fall. Not much in the way of new content: Scrubs moves over from NBC for its final 18-episode season; Mike Judge gives us yet another dysfunctional animated comedy in The Goode Family; British scifi import Life on Mars will keep Lost’s schedule spot warm until January; and Ashton Kutcher cranks out two new reality series — one revolves around a beauty pageant competition, partnering with Tyra Banks, and the other is an in-your-face “Publishers Clearing House” vehicle in which a mobile production team drives to unsuspecting families’ homes to test their on-the-spot knowledge of each other for cash and prizes. Other than that, it’s pretty much business as usual. Casualties of last season include: Men in Trees, Miss Guided, October Road, Women’s Murder Club, Big Shots, Cavemen (did anyone ever watch that show?), and Cashmere Mafia.

#2 Annmarie on 05.22.08 at 3:22 pm

They cancelled Women’s Murder Club yet they still torture us with shows like The Bachelor!

#3 Tom on 05.23.08 at 6:53 am

In a few years, there will be nothing on TV but Reality shows laced with car commercials. The worst part is the ratings of this moronic dribble is a sad commentary on society. When you ask someone ” who do you think you’ll vote for ?” and the person replies” you mean on idol ?”, All I can say is God help our youth !

#4 Dale Alexander on 05.23.08 at 12:08 pm

One hour a week - Eli Stone. Your only hope is someone watches football.

#5 Liz on 05.24.08 at 9:23 pm

Carpoolers was a great show…just a bad time slot w/ that stupid Cavemen. These networks don’t give anything a chance! Chasmere Mafia was a good one, also. Great job, ABC…

#6 Leslie on 05.25.08 at 10:23 pm

How could you cancel Cashmere Mafia?!?!? That was way better than that stupid Lipstick Jungle. It was smart funny, well written, evolving characters and just awesome. How could you??? That sucks every good show Networks get rid of!!!!!!!!

#7 Rachel on 05.26.08 at 5:53 pm

The only good shows on ABC are The Bachelor, Supernanny, and Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. I guess I like the reality shows. :)

#8 Jane on 06.04.08 at 7:38 am

I agree with one of the comments above…does EVERYTHING have to be reality TV? Content full of non -talented real life people? if i wanted to WATCH real life on TV, i would film myself at work. We want Actors, hollywood, drama, scandal…Cashmere Mafia was good, i can’t stand the reality TV boom…i never watch tv anymore….

#9 Janice Wawrzyniak on 06.05.08 at 11:26 am

I don’t understand why you’re cancelling “Men in Trees” ? It is a one of a kind series and I know alot of people besides myself and my husband who enjoy it very much? So what gives????

#10 Jessica Welch on 06.07.08 at 3:22 pm

I cannot believe ABC dropped Womens Murder Club, I honestly didnt watch any of the other shows dropped but I LOVED Womens Murder Club. The books are amazing and so was the show. I actually use to have something to watch on Fridays…what the hell? Whoever decided to cut these shows….must have not watched them themselves.

#11 Nicole on 06.08.08 at 2:54 pm

Okay what is going on w/ these network why would they cancel two very good shows like Cashmere Mafia and Women Murder Club. Do they not understand that they are making a lot of their viewers mad. We do not need anymore reality TV. Please bring back these two shows….

#12 Terrie on 06.09.08 at 11:50 am

Why CANCEL “Womens Murder Club” it had mystery and What to much drama? At least I still will have Eli Stone and Ugly Betty!

#13 Janice Wawrzyniak on 06.09.08 at 3:22 pm

Why are you cancelling “Men in Trees”? It is a unique show with alot of laughs and also a wonderful romantic line with Jack & Marin. Please rethink this!!! I know alot of people who really enjoy this because it’s different than all the other series.

#14 Leslie on 06.11.08 at 4:37 pm

Alright so you are keeping Eli Stone which is probably one of the dumbest shows ever! And you are getting rid of Cashmere Mafia?!?! Yeah that makes sense. It was a show that was a little under the radar but once I started talking about it to my girlfriends and they watched the re-runs they really enjoyed it. They totally wanted more!

#15 Jackie on 06.11.08 at 7:48 pm

This is why all we watch is cable. We start watching a show like “Womens Murder Club” Then you take it away. Then you wonder why no one watches ABC go figure. I know a lot of people who like this show. Maybe you should ask the right people “What they watch”.

#16 Sue on 06.12.08 at 11:02 am

I can’t believe that you’re taking off most everything that I watch on ABC - Men in Trees, Cashmere Mafia and Women’s Murder Club!!! What’s left - mostly crap that I just won’t watch. How disappointing!

#17 tori on 06.12.08 at 11:58 pm

what gives? no more october road? the last show was great and a good set up for more.

enough with the reality shows….we have enough of reality in our lives, provide some entertainment

#18 Alicia on 06.13.08 at 1:45 pm

I thought ABC was going to be the American syndicate or whatever for the Canadian TV show “The Collector”. What happened there? I was really excited about that. What happened?

#19 Dori on 06.14.08 at 7:52 am

I was really liking Women’s Murder Club. Enough of The Bachelor and other reality bs. The only reason why shows like that get ratings, is because the networks are pulling all the great shows off the air, way too soon. ABC could have given the show at least another 8 episodes.

#20 Tracie Mariani on 06.17.08 at 10:40 am

I loved Women’s Murder Club. I’ll really miss it.

#21 Cindy on 06.18.08 at 11:32 am

How can you canncel the Women’s Murder Club, and Men in Trees? NOt everone watches the stupid shows like the Bachelor, Bachelorette, and Supernany! On the Bachelor he never marries anyone, and it will be the same for the Bavhelorette, and who wants to see a show that show that some parents can’t control their kids? Can you not just have something to watch that is not stupid or a reality show? You need to put the Women’s Murder Club and Men in trees back on.

#22 SHERRY on 06.20.08 at 4:23 am

MEN IN TREES, WOMENS MURDER CLUB, OCTOBER ROAD? ALL OF THESE SHOWS WERE GREAT! SOON NOBODY WILL WATCH REGULAR TV ALL THE GREAT SHOWS ARE ALWAYS TAKEN OFF . SOON WE WILL ALL BE JUST RENTING MOVIES OR WATCHING THE STATIONS LIKE LIFETIME, USA, TNT, TBS, ETC.

#23 Poonam on 06.21.08 at 4:46 pm

cashmere mafia????? big shots????? what is the matter with you people ….reason for cashmere mafia not airing again this season is ABC …itself….give it another shot you wont be dissapointed ….for Gods sake that was the only sophisticated show worth watching …………

#24 Vivi on 06.23.08 at 10:32 am

With “Men in Trees” you not only had a good script, fine acting, an interesting cast of characters–well directed— but humor, pathos and originality. Then, after interest in the show was generated, you had to play “Let Us See What Night We Can Find MIT?” for the audiences.
We never knew when, where or if. We have an abundance of “Cops and Robbers” style shows monopolizing the networks just now. Here was a show that was absorbing and fun to watch. Why kick it???

#25 Amanda on 06.26.08 at 8:36 am

cashmere mafia, big shots, october road and womens murder club are all great shows!! And there being replaced by crap! I think that ABC made a serious mistake. Looks like I will be tuning into other stations.

#26 Emily on 07.03.08 at 9:32 am

At least you will have Scrubs…

#27 Roocy on 07.04.08 at 2:34 pm

Thank you for keeping Eli Stone!! Though honestly, dump The Bachelor and keep shows like Men in Trees, people really DO want comedy & drama back over ‘reality’. It’s a shame you dumped Men in Trees, it was charming and quirky, but my guess is the personal drama off set wasn’t aiding the series ratings? And… Dancing with the Stars is a guilty pleasure… glad you kept it (it inspired me to workout to get in better shape and take up dancing again).

#28 Tired of reality CRAP on 07.06.08 at 8:50 am

Men in trees is one of the best acted shows on TV. Guess you at ABC dont know a good thing when it is staring you in the eyes. Stupid shows like Wipe out and the Japaneze game show– come on! Think about it. this is not what we want to watch. How far out of civilization are you there at ABC. PUT MEN IN TREES BACK ON THE AIR. what’s next to be cancelled, Ugly Betty…Oh yeah they have actors too. I guess they will be next. Guess ABC stands for Already Been Cancelled.

#29 annoyed viewer on 07.06.08 at 10:23 am

do networks even listen to their viewers anymore? reality shows like bachelor/ette are disgusting and are an immoral plague to our society. i can’t stand that women’s murder club got canceled. seriously… do they want to continue to kiss the butts of the uneducated trash that watches reality tv or do we want to show the world that we’re better than that? no wonder terrorists want to kill us if this is the image we give off! thank God that home makeover isn’t canceled and that eli stone is back, even if we have to wait til football is off.

#30 REALLY TIRED OF REALITY SHOWS on 07.09.08 at 8:01 pm

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH….Some of use are tired of seeing regular people on tv in ‘real’ life that’s why we watch tv. Not that a lot of that crap could qualify as reality but you get my point. My goodness Eli Stone is a ridiculous show ranked up there shows like ‘The Bachelor’. I was a late comer to ‘Men in Trees’ and ‘Women’s Murder Club’ but I really liked them and I love (or loved) ‘October Road’. But apparently what the viewer really want doesn’t matter to ABC……

#31 Laury on 07.13.08 at 7:05 pm

Dancing with stars…that is so OLD and BORING…Please bring back October Road. Now that is a show I can relate to having graduated in the 70’s. You really did leave us hangin’ on that show. At least your still running Ugly Betty and Grey’s.
Please consider returning us to October Road this fall.

#32 Michael Stailey on 07.13.08 at 8:15 pm

“October Road” is getting a 15 min series finale, featuring the original cast, for the second season DVD release and it will likely play online at ABC.com as well. But that’s all fans are going to get. The show runners have moved on to the new ABC series “Life on Mars.”

#33 Erin on 07.16.08 at 9:50 am

I’m really dissapointed that October Road is not coming back! ABC you need to take a poll of the real life TV viewers instead of showing real life on TV. We all have bachelorette’s in our life, and spoiled kids screaming. That is usually why we tuned in to the shows, that actually have writer’s to escape the reality of real life!! October road will truly be missed at our home!! Thank God we still have cable!!

#34 Intelligent One on 07.16.08 at 5:04 pm

America is more intelligent than you think. We like to be entertained. Bring back Women’s Murder Club. It was very interesting. Was it that women were working together to achieve a common goal and using their intellect. Well ABC I think it is time you used your intellect and bring it back. Remember that everything was mixed up due to the writer’s strike. Give the show another chance.

#35 Not Very Happy on 07.17.08 at 5:41 am

I can’t believe that ABC cancelled Women’s Murder Club, but renewed Eli Stone! I love the books and loved the show. It was one of the few shows that held my interest. Enough with the “reality shows” already!

#36 AJ on 07.17.08 at 10:57 am

What gives? Is reality TV all that’s left? I can’t belive this… Cashmere Mafia and Women’s Murder Club got cancelled??? And we are stuck with reality TV? God help us

#37 Lisa on 07.17.08 at 6:55 pm

What is up ABC. You cancelled Men in Trees, October Road,
and Women’s Murder Club. These were all good shows. I don’t want to watch reality shows, they suck!!!! You leave on Super Nanny and Wife Swap, who cares!!!! You need to bring back good old fashion tv shows to watch. Bring back the cancelled shows. Also don’t put them on for three episodes and say they are not working. Let them run like years ago, the entire season from Sept. to May. Not this partial stuff. We want good TV,not stupid reality stuff. We want Men in Trees and October Road BACK!!!!!!!!!!

#38 Nan on 07.18.08 at 9:23 am

I am very disappointed that Men in Trees and Cashmere Mafia have been cancelled. I knew quite a few people that watched these shows and loved them as well. I think this was a BIG mistake!!!!!!!!! Bring them back!!!!!!!!!

#39 belinda on 07.18.08 at 4:30 pm

I guess i’ll be switching from network to cable, Maybe HBO will pick up womens murder club. Big mistake ABC

#40 Biff on 07.20.08 at 3:32 am

Viewers are victims of the marketing industry. TV shows are all about what they think will sell best for them. What will draw the best Nielsen ratings, is how those people determine where to spend their advertising dollars. And where those dollars come in is what the networks decide to put on. So, NO, they don’t listen to the viewers. The viewers pay for cable, so good shows prevail there, because WE are not interested in what sells. We just want good programs that entertain and enlighten.

#41 Deb on 07.20.08 at 8:48 am

Okay. Who the heck is running ABC now. Men in Trees, October Road, Women’s Murder Club…. I am sick and tired of seeing so-called adults acting like neandrathals in Bachelor and Bachelorette. Let them go out and get dates like everyone else has to… For heaven sakes, how can you actually believe that BS. I am with everyone else. Once football season is over, it’s back to cable for me. I don’t care how many men/women these people have to screw to figure out which one is the one they “may” want to spend their lives with. I want to see Women taking down murderers with class and I want to see everyday people making it in a little town in Alaska and I want to know who the “father” is on October Road!! Last year was writer’s strike, maybe this year should be viewers strike!

#42 Julie on 07.20.08 at 4:27 pm

I’m not a fan of reality shows. I look forward to October Road, and men in tree’s. It is unfortunate that these shows have been canceled. Why don’t the viewers have some sort of say on what will be viewed. The reality of my life is enough(full time job, three children), I don’t need to see the “junk” on T.V.

#43 Melissa on 07.21.08 at 8:14 pm

count me out as a watcher of ABC the ONLY shows I watched were October Road and Men in trees which were the two BEST shows on tv. I also enjoyed Women’s murder club, Miss Guided, and Carpoolers. Reality TV has to go. I do agree dancing with the stars is good entertainment but really who even watches The Bachelor??? Sorry but ABC has NOTHING left to offer me as a longtime viewer. Thanks for nothing.

#44 Deb on 07.24.08 at 3:08 pm

“Men in Trees” had great story plots and was refreshing. Please reconsider!!!

#45 kk05 on 07.26.08 at 8:19 am

Are you kidding me! Who is running the network? We are tired of crap like “Dancing with the Stars”. It was kinda cool the first season, but we need something with more to make us think. Not just sit and stare at the tube! Bring back “Womens Murder Club”!!!! And if we want to just be entertained we want to watch “Big Shots” (a great show with an awesome cast)

#46 Lisa on 07.26.08 at 3:34 pm

I can’t believe that you would allow an intelligent show like “Men in Trees” go! What are people who are tired of seeing all of the trash of reality television supposed to watch?! Really? Supernanny? The Bachelor? The only shows that compliment ABC are “Eli Stone”, “Ugly Betty”, and “Pushing Daisies”! Grey’s is still alright I guess, and “Private Practice” is okay if nothing more interesting is on! I wish that MIT could continue on a network like USA, TNT, or FX because that is where all of the true entertainment is! ABC, you really got it wrong this time!

#47 Alison on 07.27.08 at 10:20 pm

PLEASE bring back October Road & Men in Trees! I have to know what happens!! I guess what I loved about October Road is that it was real & normal (I could relate!) and it was a show about people my own age (which there aren’t a lot of shows following late 20’s/early 30’s living normal everyday lives.) And you can’t leave Men in Trees without us knowing what happens between Patrick & Annie?!!! I’m still sad that My So-Called Life was cancelled and we’ll never know what happens next! I mean come on, who really needs wife-swap (which is so stupid!) and another reality show. People watch tv & movies to “escape from” reality!

#48 Lisa S on 07.29.08 at 5:00 am

Why did you take off October Road and Men in Trees.
They are women’s and guess what we shop and spend money at your advertiser’s locations. Pls put these shows back on !!!!!

#49 Lyndie on 07.29.08 at 5:01 am

Bring back Men in Trees and October Road!!!! I’m switching to NBC this fall.

#50 Kelly on 07.29.08 at 9:59 am

I’m just glad my Grey’s Anatomy is still on…

#51 Missy on 08.01.08 at 3:43 pm

I have to say I have been very disappointed in network tv as of late. ABC is not the only station to take the low road. It is a shame that a good program gets cut so quickly and is replaced by something my 13 year old could write but not watch. Women’s Murder Club was a great show- strong characters, great plots. I for one will not be watching ABC this fall. Unfortunately, they haven’t given me a reason to do so.

#52 Stephanie on 08.03.08 at 6:49 am

UNBELEIVABLE!! I am so tired of the networks cancelling great shows! ‘Women’s Murder Club’ was my favorite new show of 2008. How can you hold the new shows accountable for so called bad ratings with the writer’s strike & series’ being put off for a few weeks to try another - I mean run a show for it’s series entirety. People get tired of getting into a new show just for an early hiatus to make room for a new one. GET RID OF REALITY!!!! Make up your own reality cable network for the weirdos that are so engrossed in them.

#53 sandy scott on 08.04.08 at 6:16 am

I really like the women’s murder club.I hope it is back on this fall

#54 Tina on 08.05.08 at 4:56 am

Thanks for keeping Pushing Daisies! It is a truly unique and heart-felt show! I’m also happy to see Eli Stone returning! It’s funny and touching!

#55 Stella on 08.05.08 at 5:01 am

I can’t believe you got rid of Men in Trees and October Road. Please bring them back!!! They were great shows with good characters. I looked forward to watching them.

#56 disappointed on 08.05.08 at 9:42 am

Oct Road and Big Shots? Really??? Even Men in Trees was a great show. People get tired of watching the same ol reality bits. Does Dancing with the stars really need two days a week? super lame ABC! Why not put DWTS at 7 and add other shows back into the line up!!!!

#57 LANDON on 08.05.08 at 10:46 pm

BRING BACK CASHMERE MAFIA BITCHES!!!

#58 Unhappy Mama on 08.07.08 at 1:12 pm

It seems that the majority of shows cancelled by ABC were aimed at the female audience. Just remember all you suits over there at ABC, “If Mama ain’t happy, no one’s happy!” And I for one am unhappy about the demise of Women’s Murder Club. C’mon guys have a heart if you aren’t going to use your brain!
