Fox Fall 2008 Lineup

News

Still trying to be the hipster network, Fox unveiled its fall television schedule yesterday. In a ploy to one-up the The CW, whose new lineup premieres Sep. 1, Fox is kicking off their heavy hitters a week earlier on Aug. 25. Terminator fans will rejoice that the Sarah Connor Chronicles has earned its stripes for a second season. Meanwhile, only two new shows join mix for the first half of the season. The Fringe is a J.J. Abrams/Bad Robot series focusing on an unstable research scientist who is as much Victor Frankenstein as he is Albert Einstein. The mythology of the relationship-based show will be a blend of Twilight Zone, X-Files, Altered States, and Scanners. Members of the Lost team will be writing/producing, which treads dangerous waters, as spreading one’s self too thin is what killed Chris Carter when Millenium and then Harsh Realm were launched while X-Files was still in production. A similar fate was suffered by Abrams’ own Alias, whose quality level dropped considerably when the team moved over to begin work on Lost. Only time will tell. The two-hour pilot for The Fringe starring Kirk Acevedo and Tomas Arana is budgeted at $10 Million. The other new show is Do Not Disturb, a sitcom brought in to replace the now canceled Back to You. Joss Whedon’s highly anticipated Dollhouse, starring Eliza Dushku, won’t debut until early 2009, serving as a lead-in to the new season of 24.

Just so Fox knows, there will only one show, which is House, that I will be watching on their network this fall. The only other exception will be American Idol. Too much garbage or boring shows. I hope ABC, NBC and CBS can do better. I will miss New Amsterdam for sure.

  2. Robbie Says:

Was Back to you cancelled for the fall line-up-I loved that show.

  3. Michael Stailey Says:

Yes, it was. Didn’t score the ratings the network wanted for renewal.

  4. Mike Says:

Where is New Amsterdam? That was the BEST show FOX has come up with since HOUSE….If they drop this one, they’ve missed the boat…big time……

  5. Kristie Says:

I agree with others. We will miss New Amsterdam!! It was a great show. Sure wish they would bring it back

  6. Oh Well... Says:

I’ve got Sarah Conor… and one of the best TV shows ever Prison Break… The problem with Back to you was the format was all wrong, it should have been fraiser and Debra from from E.L. Raymond, But they tried to give them new characters, if the guy was stuffy and smart and she was mean and sarcastic, then the show would have worked, just change the sports guy and get some real scenery it would have worked.

  7. Oh Well... Says:

p.s. – new Amsterdam was good, the only thing is I would have been fine with the ending if she was the one, but when they ended the season and she wasn’t they made it seem like the show was coming back… morons!

  8. The Doctor Says:

House is the only redeemable show on FOX. The first season of Prison Break was great. After that, everything went sour. If House went to NBC, I’d only have one station to watch!

  9. Minerva 1 Says:

Back to You was well written and very funny. This could have be a hit if given the chance. FOX thumbs down to you.

  10. joni Says:

debra wassil, fox don’t give a damn what you will and won’t watch. by the way american idol is the garbage you say. prison break, bones, family guy, amercian dad, much better shows than idol…

You took the words right out of my finger tips.. It as if you and I think alike sadly the network doesnt realize we are out here …

“New Amersterdam” I have to write the ending myself. His partner was “The one” they should at least have a finale locked in and end it if they find out that they arn’t going to be picked up for the new season.
It feels like that “twilight zone” episdode with Bergus Meridith where the world comes to an end and he gets to read all the books he never had time to do and then his glasses break! I want to finish my book “New Amerstdam. Thank heavens they let “American Idol keep going, can you imagine it being cancelled just when they get to the top 10 GRRRRR. LOL

when life hands you lemons u have to make lemonade

  12. annie Says:

I too liked “New Amersterdam” but I also liked “Canteburys Law” am I alone here? What is with Fox’s Friday night lineup, woldn’t either of these be better then those two game shows.

  13. McCabeIsTheMan1 Says:

PRISON BREAK is the BEST GOD DAMN SHOW EVER MADE!!!!! end of story

  14. Evil Steve Says:

I tuned in to fox network last year for the first time as a regular viewer of two programs other than football. Back to you and New Amsterdam. I guess I’m done with fox except on gameday.

  15. Is any1 outh there Says:

Does anyone remeber when fox had an awsome line up in the 90’s 90210, melrose place, martin, living single, NY undercover, married with children Fox used to rock now they have new shows every season, bad business, be the first network to do something different let the audience tel you what they want to watch, and ur ratings will grow, what happened to the good sitcoms?? and by the way American Idol is soooo over!

  16. jen Says:

I love New Amsterdam. I found it while abraoud and scrolling on itunes. I even got friend to love it. We are all very disapointed.

  17. Tiffany Says:

New Amsterdam was awesome. What is wrong with all these networks? They are canceling the good shows and keeping the crap. I like House, Bones, and Fringe is my new favorite but Im ready for something new ans Fox just didnt deliver this year.

  19. Chris Says:

prison break and 24 best shows ever

  20. Daniela Says:

New Amsterdam was a good show. What about the great show 24? Is it coming back? The only other show we watch on FOX is Bones. There are way too many reality shows on TV these days. They are not worth watching.
