NBC Fall 2008 Lineup

NBC got a jump on the competition, announcing their fall schedule weeks ahead of the usual television upfronts. The only big surprise was the decision to create a half-hour politically charged version of SNL capitalizing on the Presidential race, something they missed out on during the writers’ strike. It also temporarily fills the void left by Scrubs, which jumped to ABC for its final season. Chuck and Heroes return to Mondays with brand new episodes, with the former hoping to avoid the sophomore slump that plagued the latter in 2007. Biggest Loser lends a hand to fat families, having exhausted the singles and couples route in previous seasons. The reboot of Knight Rider moves into the early slot of Wednesdays, minus the voice of Will Arnett as Kitt, due to a product conflict with his GM commercial deal (Kitt is a Ford). Here too, the hope is to avoid the disastrous fate met by the Bionic Woman last fall. Thursdays go supersized, which could mean overexposure for NBC’s bread and butter sitcoms. If the writing fails, look for those mid-season replacements to start showing up early — like Kath and Kim, an Aussie comedy remake teaming Molly Shannon with Selma Blair. (Poor Selma, she’ll be eaten alive.) Then again, anything may be better than an hour of Earl, given the lame coma story line they threw at us this season. Friday finds another remake in Crusoe, a period drama which blends the classic shipwrecked tale with MacGyver-like ingenuity. How original. Don’t expect this one to stick around for its full 13-episode commitment. All in all, another safe, uninteresting season from the Peacock. Will someone finally pull the plug on ER. Please?

#2 mstailey on 05.25.08 at 10:41 am

Friday Night Lights has been given a 13 episode commitment, as a mid-season replacement.

#3 BJ on 05.25.08 at 3:57 pm

What about Life?

#4 Leslie on 05.25.08 at 9:43 pm

I miss Vegas already!!! I really want to know what happened with Delinda. Plus the show was finally rekindling some of its old fire. Im really not happy. Also, Medium??? Hello? You can’t leave both these shows so abruptly!

#5 Rachel on 05.26.08 at 5:48 pm

The only good shows are The Office, The Biggest Loser, and Deal or No Deal. SNL and Law & Order are ok.

#6 mdecillis on 05.28.08 at 11:51 am

Did I miss something about Medium, did they mention that it was gone because it normally starts in the winter.

#7 mstailey on 05.28.08 at 1:03 pm

MEDIUM will be back as a mid-season replacement in the late winter, early spring.

#8 ann on 05.30.08 at 4:56 pm

crossing jordan seemed strong, like it still had some stories to tell. phenomenol cast, writing, etc.

#9 mdecillis on 06.02.08 at 4:01 am

Yeah I figured it would start in January as usual. And I liked crossing jordan as well Ann.

Earl, The Office, and Life are the only good on NBC. ABC pretty much sucks. CBS has the most good shows but it is clearly apparent that the big 3 have no clue as to what the viewers want.

#11 Leslie on 06.11.08 at 4:41 pm

Hello Vegas!!! At least finish the story-line! It was finally getting back some of its own magic. I mean come on!

I started watching 30 Rock late, so imagine my surprise when (to watch it On Demand on Comcast), I have to pay about a buck an episode. Geez, NBC, none of the other big networks do that… sure makes you seem cheap and unenlightened. After all, build the audience every way possible, and you’ll have more watching during primetime viewing.

#13 annoyed viewer on 07.06.08 at 10:36 am

man i’m so glad they didn’t take out Life… though it’s on the same time as numb3rs on cbs… guess i’ll have to record one. but that gives me something to watch on saturdays. just don’t understand what has happened to the original Law & Order… is it a midseason show now?

#14 Eliz on 07.07.08 at 2:23 pm

Are you serious about FNL? It is the one show I look forward to all week long. It has heart, soul, and something to identify with rather you are a mom or a senior in high school. PLEASE

#15 Derek on 07.23.08 at 12:17 pm

Any word on if Journeyman is coming back? My wife and I loved the show.

#16 C.Williams on 07.27.08 at 8:21 am

Heroes and Friday Night Lights was the only TV I watched. Of course the FNL ratings will drop if you put it on FRIDAY. My fellow Texans will attest to this, Friday nights IS high school football night!! Note to NBC, put Heroes and FNL together on a day like Monday or Tuesday and watch those ratings soar!!!

#17 B Smith on 07.30.08 at 8:29 am

So when is Vegas suppose to be coming back?

#18 BERT on 08.05.08 at 3:55 pm

IS VEGAS COMING BACK? LOVE THE SHOW

#19 Hawk on 08.07.08 at 4:10 am

The addition of Tom Selleck to Las Vegas gave the show an opportunity to have some humor to the show instead of all the drama. The show needs to continue as there are many unresolved issues for we the viewers to be able to have closure. Great cast, excellent story lines but no more?

#20 tracy on 08.08.08 at 12:30 pm

Please bring Vegas back. I think it’s cruel to leave us hanging. What happened to Delinda’s baby, did she and Danny get married, did Sam and Vic get married, is Jillian going to get with Cooper, who was on the plane that crashed? There are too many loose ends. Please bring the show back, if not on NBC what about on USA, Bravo or another cable outlet. Quite a few shows have found their audience on the cable networks (The Closer, Burn Notice, The House of Payne, Eureka, etc.). A show with a fan base deserve better than what you are doing to Vegas. Come on, there have been worse shows on television that were given an opportunity to end properly.

And while I’m at it, what is up with Law and Order? Why has it been reduced to a midseason replacement when that tired ER has been in the same place for what 30 years. My God, please put an end to ER and move Law and Order to it’s slot or at least give it a permanent time slot and a cute guy to replace Det. Green.

#21 Leslie on 08.14.08 at 8:18 pm

VEGAS BABY!!!!! really i want to know about the baby? how can you leave such a great show just done like that? no warning or anything. FNL is awesome leave a good show on please. all my friends were starting to get so into it.

#22 Kent on 08.21.08 at 3:20 am

Why encore presentations and deal and no deal during the daytime and the two times a week. Looks like NBC can’t come up with original shows and have to depend on reality and less substance tv. Come on NBC you WERE my favorite Network.

#23 Mary on 08.23.08 at 1:24 pm

Has NBC gone completely crazy? Why in the world would you not bring Vegas back. We have been looking forward to the new shows the whole summer. If it came on 2 hours every Friday night we would jump for joy.

#24 BERT on 08.23.08 at 2:58 pm

VEGAS WAS ONE OF MY FAVORATE SHOWS ON NBC BESIDES MEDIUM. HOPEFULLY ANOTHER NETWORK WILL PICK IT UP AND FINISH THE STORY OR I KNOW CBS AT LEAST CAME BACK AFTER ENOUGH COMPLAINTS AND FINISHED OUT THE STORY LINE FOR JERICO.

#25 Alie on 08.28.08 at 7:47 am

OK! WHY IS ER STILL ON…MY SON IS OUT OF COLLEGE NOW..WHEN THIS SHOW CAME ON HE WAS IN THE 3RD GRADE…I THINK THEY’VE COVERED EVERYTHING THAT COULD HAPPEN IN LIFE AS MUCH AS IN A HOSPITAL!
jEEES..LET IT DIE!

#26 Amanda on 08.31.08 at 6:19 pm

Man! Las Vegas is my absolute favorite show and the producers left us with this? An ending that is a cliff hanger !? What the heck, I really would love to see the show continue, Tom Selleck and the gang were finally making the show JUICY!!!

#27 benjamin on 09.07.08 at 1:02 pm

For the love of God, all summer i’ve had to watch crap. I’ve been looking forward to getting back into the routine of good shows and now i see that vegas is not coming back?? What is going on here?

#28 bertha Byra on 09.08.08 at 12:06 am

#29 Linda on 09.14.08 at 5:53 am

Vegas, Vegas, Vegas, Vegas…bring it back!! One of the few shows where you could laugh and cry at the same time. The cliff hanger still has us hanging. This is one hel_ of a good show. I hope one of the cable channels pickes it up. Oh NBC what are you thinking…

#30 shawty on 09.19.08 at 5:05 pm

wtfreak! wheres las vegas! im heated! bring it back asap!

#31 FNL Fan 1 on 09.23.08 at 1:50 pm

Ok. So if you havent heard, FNL is on channel 101 on DIRECTV only starting on October 1st. It will run 13 weeks, then after the Superbowl it will be on regular NBC programming as Mid-Season replacement as mstailey alluded to.

#32 John on 09.27.08 at 4:49 pm

I agree with most of the posts here about Vegas! It was hard to deal with James Caan leaving; so we got used to Tom Selleck and it got really good! I loved the final episode where he shows up at his own funeral! I’ve looked and looked and it seems Vegas is NOT coming back this fall? I hope I’m wrong, this is one truly great show on tv and I agree, it’s wrong to just up and stop taping this show with so many cliff hangars. Has anyone heard if it’s actually coming back or not? I’d appreciate an answer!

I now understand why N B C has fallen so far since the days they ruled the airways.
WHAT IDIOT IS DOING THE PROGRAMING FOR THIS IGNORANT NETWORK?????
They FINALLY get a few good shows going, and then they move, move, and drop them.
Las Vegas was the best they had, and the corporate GENIUSES drop the show.
