Riding high from this past season, CBS is doing very little to mess with the magic they have going. Like ABC, they aren’t planning a split season, so what you see is what you get… until ratings prove otherwise.
Monday’s comedy block remains in tact, with Big Bang Theory moving into the 9:30p slot, showing confidence in their rising star, while offering Sheldon and the boys an opportunity to become a bit more naughty. Dumping Worst Week and Rules of Engagement, a new player surfaces at 8:30p in the form of Accidentally on Purpose. The Jenna Elfman driven sitcom focuses on a San Francisco film critic who “accidentally” finds herself with child and all the comedy that ensues. Extras Ashley Jensen co-stars.
Tuesday remains heavily procedural with Mark Harmon’s NCIS, paired with its Chris O’Donnell / LL Cool J spinoff NCIS: Los Angeles, and followed by yet another legal-themed vehicle for ER’s Julianna Marguiles. This time, she’s a politician’s Good Wife who revives her career as a successful defense attorney.
Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday remain virtually untouched from 2008, with returning fan favorite The Mentalist taking over for the failed Eleventh Hour, and NBC’s castoff Medium filling in the Friday spot vacated by the dismal Ex-List.
Saturday warms two hours worth of leftovers, repeating hour-longs people might have missed during the week — a cheap but odd choice, given that so many shows are now available On Demand and online. And Sunday jettisons The Unit, moving Cold Case an hour later to make room for Three Rivers, a new medical drama about organ transplant patients.
It’s a tame, but solid schedule for the 35-85 age group. Then again, that’s what CBS has long been known for.

“melissa Smith said: Where’s kings? I swear, if nbc cancels kings, i’m not watcing NBC for a year!”
Did you say “Kings”? Lady last time I checked this was for posters about CBS’s Fall Lineup NOT NBC!!! I think you go the blog for the wrong network. Nothing personal but go to where NBC posters go or talk about CBS’s Fall Lineup here.

Yes these reality shows are stupid but why isn’t anybody talking about the pointlessness of “Big Brother”? CBS needs to get rid of that one too!! I’ve been saying that since that show’s been a waste of space on my TV. Hey all “Unit” fanatics I think MyNetworkTV has picked it up or is talking about rescuing it. It’s slated for Thursdays. Hope it’s not just repeats. Dumb move CBS for cancelling “Unit” & “W/o a Trace”. Give “Big Brother” the axe too!!! Only reason guys watch it is for Julie Chen. They can see plenty of her on the “Early Show”.
8. September 2009 at 1:55 am
“LarryR said: The Unit and NCIS! Best 2 shows on TV. Now one is gone. Is this the way of CBS for the future?”
Could be worse. At least they don’t air the same crap as ABC (namely “Housewives” & “GA”), Bravo (namely “QueerEye” & “Real Housewives”) or CW (namely “Everybody Hates Chris”) but taking “Unit” off was incredibly dumb!! CBS will be paying for that mistake especially if rumors are true that MyNetworkTV is recycling the show.

“Slip said: Does anyone else notice the overbearing amount of CSI and similiar progams in the entire line up. This network needs a complete overhaul for lack of creativity and diversity….oh just put on another CSI show and call it a day….what a horrible display of decision making.
CSI
CSI:Miami
CSI:NY
NCIS
NCIS:LA
Criminal MInds
Cold Case
48 Hours
Repeats
You should all be fired…and sell you primetime line up to become a cbale channel: The CSI network…horrible.”
I agree too many CSI shows but watch it dude! There still mega tons of “NCIS” & “Cold Case” fans out there including myself. You’re w/very lonely co when it comes to “NCIS”. BTW what planet are you from man?!! “NCIS” is one of the hottest shows out there today. It ain’t gonna go away anytime soon not w/the increased following it gets each yr. LL’s diehard fans are gonna watch “NCIS: LA” bottom line. You can dump on any reality shows on CBS (“Big Bro” especially) but don’t dump on “NCIS” or “Cold Case” for the matter unless you want millions & millions of angry fans of those shows dumping on you! Don’t go there buddy!!! If you don’t like CBS go to another network!! Plain & Simple as that!!!
8. September 2009 at 10:44 am
Does any one know if the Unit is coming back this fall, it’s truly one of my favorite shows.
14. September 2009 at 5:10 pm
have been watching The Unit and Without a Trace since day one and I agree that some of the replacements have me shaking my head. Maybe with enough feedback those who schedule can pick them up with Flashpoint which is another awesome show at midseason. Give up what we want and it not another show that reminds us that our politicians just cannot seem to set a good moral example. The Unit was a show that had depth and interest for both men and women that my husband and I could actually watch together. Midseason replacement please.
14. September 2009 at 5:19 pm
What happened to the Unit. It was a great show that I actually enjoyed watching other than the history channel. I think that CBS made a big mistake cancelling this program and can only hope they redem themselves by bringing it back with Flashpoint at midseason or when one of the replacement shows bomb. I watch very little network t.v., to many commercials that last forever, but this show was definely worth watching. Hope the powers that be get the message and bring it back. Quit messing with a good thing and second guessing shows that work men actually do like shows other than sports.
15. September 2009 at 12:27 pm
why cancel the unit the best show if you dont but it back one i will be extremly upset what other shows can i know watch that are like this. none see how many people did this same thing and mutply it by evryone who watches it then see how many people you lost
15. September 2009 at 8:25 pm
I cannot BELIEVE CBS is getting rid of the Unit. Are you guys braindead or or just stupid? The Unit was by far the best show on television. It was the ONE show that I looked forward to every week; the only one that I would actually cancel plans for, so that I could be home to watch. Does CBS have something against the military? I mean, yeah, you have NCIS, but that’s much more a crime drama than it is a look into what goes on in the military. Maybe all the peacenik left-wingers at CBS don’t want us to see military personnel as the heros they are. The Unit was very well wriitten, and very well acted and had more of an air of reality than most reality shows. Shame on you CBS, you just lost a viewer.
16. September 2009 at 4:30 am
Sorry “Unit” fans that don’t get MyNetworkTV. I’m certain that I heard MNTV’s attempting to recycle this unexpectedly dumped program that according to this blog many viewers are upset about its cancellation by CBS. But there’s still hope yet. I’m confident that CBS will listen if either “Good Wife” or “3 Rivers” fail miserably which seems likely according to this blog. I’ve yet to see 1 positive comment about either of em & it’s highly unlikely that’s gonna happen. CBS oughta listen b/c it seems there are more “Unit” fans than it thinks. Again why isn’t anyone here bashing “Big Brother”? Is it b/c of Julie Chen? I don’t understand this love affair w/her? Yes she’s a very lovely & attractive woman but again this is “Big Brother” which has been an extremely controversial & even frequently loathed reality show by many responsible & concerned parents. If you love her so much you can see plenty of Chen by watching her on CBS’s “Early Show”. “Big Bro” needs to go NOW!!!!
Bring back “Unit” CBS b4 its too late or that lame ABC passes you in Nielsen ratings!!! Down w/”Big Brother”!! 2 Thumbs Down!!!!
16. September 2009 at 4:54 am
Guess it figures why Viacom (CBS’s parent) keeps “Big Brother”!!! This is the same parent co that has been cramming reality crap on MTV (CBS relative) like “Real World” & “Road Rules” down our throats for soooo many yrs now. “(Un)Real World” has been on MTV for over 15 yrs & I hate it more than I ever did the 1st time I watched it. It was a waste of time then & still is to this day. That show ruined MTV for life & many old school MTV lovers like me have never forgiven MTV for bringing that piece of crap into our lives!! It’s a wonder why many of America’s youth is as disrespectful & rambunctious as it is today. People can thank MTV & “(Un)Real World” for that. Where were the parents when this show 1st came about? Where was Jim Dobson (a major opponent of MTV & “(Un)Real World”)? They coulda stopped it from evolving into this cockroach it’s become on our TV screens. If MTV were smart it woulda cancelled it eons ago!! It also comes to no surprise that the same “(Un)Real World” fans are the ones who are avid fans of “Big Brother” & this is why it survives on CBS. Survives for what?! Again leave it up to the left-wing liberal big city slickers that live for this garbage!!!
Viacom get rid of “Big Brother” & “(Un)Real World” NOW!!!!!!!! Bring back “Unit” for the sake of the viewers posting at this blog!!
16. September 2009 at 5:28 am
Big Brother? The wives/girl friends like it. In my house, the wife controls the remote (except for week-end sports). That is a fact of life and cheaper than a divorce. Regardless, it may be about money. Reality shows are less costly to produce. Survivor is next. Back to the Unit. After watching the last 2 episodes again, there are hints in those shows the “Unit” will no longer be. If it is revived, and I certainly hope it is, we all have to hope some of the actors don’t get other “gigs”. They all work together so well. Doubt MNTV will do new shows. The good news is, I can’t remember word for word old shows, so seeing the old ones again will be O.K. for now, until CBS gets smart and renews “The Unit”. Or could CBS execs be feeling pressure from the real “big brother” in Washington? “The Unit” makes our country look like the good guys. THINK ABOUT THAT ONE! Instead of “Bus driver, move that bus.” It imust be “CBS, bring back “the Unit”!
16. September 2009 at 5:43 am
Proves how stupid Viacom & CBS really are these days. I mean it drops 2 popular dramas like “Unit” & “W/o a Trace” & keeps retreaded (or retarded) reality shows like “Survivor”, “Amazing Race” & “Big Brother”. If CBS lost those shows it’d be well ahead of ABC in Nielsen ratings!! But these days it’s neck & neck w/ABC & I’m not talking b/c ABC has “Housewives” & “GA”. That’s only part of the reason why CBS can’t put away ABC & the sad thing is that ABC isn’t at all a good network. It was created for left-wing liberals who also happen to be city slickers from NYC or LA most of who do watch “Housewives” & “GA” & just wanna eat em up (& live for smut which is what best describes those 2 shows on the boobtube.) Just for the record “Housewives” & “GA” are 2 of the most OVER-RATED shows on TV on the most OVER-RATED TV network & CBS better find a way to upend those 2 pieces of trash on ABC. B/c people are growing tired of the original “CSI” that’s why “GA” has the no of viewers it has today. “CSI” has grown stale to most viewers but make no mistake I’d still watch “CSI” over “GA” on any given day even though I’ve gotten sick of it. “GA” is unbearably unwatchable. It’s totally hideous. If “GA” were on CBS it’d be a total bust & TVGuide, ET, People, Ent Wkly et al wouldn’t even be talking about it today. I don’t know if “Unit” would create competition for let alone beat “GA” (if CBS kept it on & moved it to its Thurs lineup) but “CSI” in its prime would in a heartbeat!! Had CBS & CSI’s creators not debuted the other CSI shows we wouldn’t be talking about this so-called incredible Thurs nite rivalry today. BTW “Mentalist” moving to Thurs means good riddance to “GA” sib “Private Practice” b/c “Mentalist” will handedly defeat it & force “PP” into cancellation which I hope it does. Kate Walsh is one of the most talentless female actors on prime time TV to this day. Any actress on CBS has 100 times the talent KW ever will.
There’s still hope for CBS but it needs to listen to its viewers. Bringing back “Unit” is definitely a step in the right direction. Ditto w/finding the right show(s) to drag down “GA” & ABC to where they belong – in the sewer.
17. September 2009 at 10:30 am
Where id The Unit? My husband and I enjoy The Unit and look forward to it each week. Please bring it back
17. September 2009 at 4:04 pm
So many people come here and say they loved the show (we did too, that’s why we liked to cover it) but the ratings weren’t what they hoped for and it is gone, I’m afraid.
17. September 2009 at 4:18 pm
“Unit” may not have had the best ratings on prime time TV but I think it fared better than “Private Practice” on ABC which was renewed for a 3rd season & just about every show on CW that still exists.
As viewers, the only thing we can do is write CBS & vent our frustration to them by proving them they made a mistake. Maybe they’ll listen. Even though it fizzled in the end that’s what viewers did w/the short lived “Jericho”. “Unit” fared much better than “Jericho”. It’s all we have left to do, to write & explain why they should bring back “Unit”. It can’t be that much of a waste of time. What do we gotta lose on this?
I was certain that MyNetworkTV said they were airing “Unit”. Could be reruns but we never know till we watch & find out.
21. September 2009 at 5:03 pm
The UNIT is gone? Come on! That was a great show! Any chance of a return?
21. September 2009 at 5:07 pm
CBS has cancelled “The Unit” and “Without a Trace” I am so surprised. The people that made those decisions should be fired. I am so sick of reality shows! I guess I will spend my weeknights watching old 80’s movies. I sure will not turn my TV to a CBS station. Bad business decision!
21. September 2009 at 8:14 pm
Echo most of those before me – Reality shows are awful! My husband loves The Unit and we both wish Rules of Engagement were still on.
Is anyone at CBS listening?
23. September 2009 at 8:05 am
Wow I can’t believe Without a Trace was cancelled! That was greatly written…me & my sons loved to watch that as a family. What a shame.
23. September 2009 at 12:54 pm
The only reason my house watched CBS was because of THE UNIT and ELEVENTH HOUR. IF those shows aren’t brought back our TV doesn’t get CBS!!!!
27. September 2009 at 2:49 pm
Hello, CBS.
Are you listening to the Viewers. We want The UNIT and Without a Trace. I would think you would continue these since one honors our Special Forces and the other honors missing people.
Please reconsider…
27. September 2009 at 8:05 pm
I sincerely hope the web adminisrators take the time to send CBS our written thoughts regarding “The Unit” and “Without a Trace”. I also believe the network sponsors should be contacted and told; “If you continue to sponsor ‘realiy’ shows and not pressure CBS to bring back our shows, we the consumer, will stop buying the products that support STUPID TV and ultimatly pay for CBS executives saleries! We need to hit them in the wallet. Especially during these economic times that could place sponsors (and CBS) in a world of financial hurt. (Unless Obama wants to bail out TV?)
29. September 2009 at 12:34 pm
If you go to http://www.cbs.com, scroll to the bottom of the page and click on USER FEEDBACK, you can send them a complaint about the cancellation. Everyone I know did.
29. September 2009 at 5:30 pm
How can you cancel the UNIT! I looked forward to watching that show every time it was on. That was one of the the few shows I actually watched. Bring it back, what are you gonna do replace it with CSI Russia or Bahamas. What a joke!
6. October 2009 at 10:26 am
@mike h: We here at Verdict were very vocal about our love of The Unit. We requested interviews and made it clear that there was an audience interested in seeing more but that’s the TV biz.
6. October 2009 at 6:25 pm
Well “Unit” fans it doesn’t look like “Good Wife” is gonna fail in the eyes of the critics & that makes me sick b/c I think it’s a piece of crap. LA Times is one of a handful of periodicals that tabs “Good Wife” as “the best new TV drama of the season” which is total BS. BTW Chris Noth is a traitor. He not only left “L&O: CI” for that highly overrated piece of trash “Sex & City” movie but also to co-star on “Good Wife” w/Julianna Marguilles. Now his old show(s) is in the toilet (at least his chapter of “CI” is fizzling major.) I’m hoping “Good Wife” suffers same fate as the critically acclaimed Geena Davis hit (& one season wonder) “Commander In Chief” or CBS’s “critically accalimed” Jimmy Smits drama/one season wonder “Kane” from a couple of seasons ago. Maybe Noth will return to “L&O” when it finally runs its course for good.
On the other hand, “Three Rivers” could easily fail & perhaps CBS will replace it w/”Unit” or “Flashpoint” b/c it doesn’t even look good. I saw a few mins of the pilot ep & I changed stations after only a few mins of torture. How can any sane person sit thru such rubbish on TV? I mean “GA” is bad enough & it thinks it’s the next “ER” which it is obviously is not!! “3R” is CBS’s carbon copy of “GA” & that’s a very scary thing.
Also what sickens me the most is that “Amazing Race” wins an Emmy for best reality series for the 7th straight yr. What’s wrong w/the picture here? None of these reality series on CBS are any good anymore. In my book they never were any good. “Survivor” had a couple good yrs but it’s jumped the shark & it’s never gonna get any better. It’s been on too long & it’s finally gotta go. Time for fresher stuff. No more reality crap.
Hey “LA Times,” “NCIS: LA” is a much better new drama than “Good Wife”!! I think LAT turned its back on a fresh new drama in its home city. One thing for sure LA natives are upset about this. “NCIS: LA” is more favored by most of LA than “Good Wife.” Those same people may cancel their subscription to LAT b/c of this farce. Maybe this will lead to the firing of its editor(s) & justice will be served to LAT.
6. October 2009 at 6:33 pm
We the fans who want to see “Unit” be reinstated need to come together as one & vent our frustration by showing our displeasure toward both “Good Wife” & “3 Rivers.” Maybe we’ll teach CBS that what the critics think about a show really isn’t what matters. We’re much bigger & smarter than these “brilliant” critics out there especially the ones at LA Times that call “Good Wife” the “Best new drama of the season.” We all disagree w/LAT & we need to teach them along w/CBS a lesson that we the fans should not be taken lightly. We need to make a stand & do something to convince CBS that we’re all that really matters in the success of a show.
6. October 2009 at 6:55 pm
I can’t believe they’ve cancelled “the Unit” it was (and still) the best TV show around.
I never missed an episode of the unit since it was aired. I’m only in my mid 20’s and this was the only show that we watch beside NCIS. The Unit truly brings the family together, we would called everyone to sit and watch it together and would talk about it afterwards.
I’ve been checking the other sites regarding the cancellation of unit and they have many disappointing fan commenting, I wonder if those words and comments would reach to CBS to hear our voice out. The cancellation of The Unit has saddened our day. We can only hope that they will bring back The Unit and put a smile on our face again!
12. October 2009 at 6:30 pm
I am so very disappointed to find out that THE UNIT is not on. What is up with that?!?!?! I thought they left it hanging for this season. I wanted to see what happens next. Bring back the good shows. I’m starting to get fed up with the “new” shows that are on now. None of them sound good at all to me. We definitely don’t need any more spin-offs of anything else. I am finding it difficult to find anything good to watch anymore. I’m turning to cable channels more and more when there’s nothing on the locals anymore. Very disappointed in the lineup for this year.
20. October 2009 at 8:31 pm
The Unit was one of the best shows going. It was the only thing I watched on Sunday night. I will be finding another station to watch on Sunday’s now. Three Rivers is a rip off and Survivor has been done already, give it a break. None of the new shows are very good. I am also still not impressed with NCIS LA, it leaves me disapointed each time I watch. The original is great but the new one needs something.
24. October 2009 at 8:27 am
Why was the October 22nd Mentalist a rerun? I thought this was the new Fall Season.
27. October 2009 at 5:38 pm
The networks have been sliding in reruns because of the baseball playoffs and to save their good stuff for November sweeps.
6. November 2009 at 8:32 am
bring the unit back, no one wants to see lame shows with titles that make no sense. None of the shows is as powerful and thrilling as the unit and none of them sale the dvd’s like the unit can
8. November 2009 at 6:53 pm
I would like to see the Unit brought back, CBS totally screwed up when they cancelled the Unit, and they brought in some alot of sad sad replacements. I was a big fan and now they have nothing to compare…………
9. November 2009 at 7:51 pm
Bring back the Unit, clearly the best show on T.V.
16. November 2009 at 4:00 pm
BRING BACK THE UNIT!!!
21. November 2009 at 9:55 pm
I miss The Unit, please bring it back!!!!
28. November 2009 at 7:48 pm
Bring back the Unit!!! Three Rivers is just another medical drama. Please, are you kidding me? All the other mediocre shows you have kept on, and yet you axe the best show you’ve ever had??? It is a STELLAR television program that appeals to a WIDE demographic. Whoever decided to cut this show oughtta get fired or something because that was a BAD MOVE.
