My favorite way to pay homage to those who have gone before me is to spend the day with the great war movies and marathons you find on TV on Memorial Day. Here are a few top pics.
Marathons:
A&E: Intervention
Discovery: Deadliest Catch
Food: Grill it with Bobby Flay
History: MonsterQuest
Oxygen: America’s Next Top Model
TNT: Bones
SCI FI – Land of the Lost!!!
SPIKE: CSI NY
And that’s just the tip of the TV iceberg. Check your local listings for more.
Movies:
TCM has 72 hours of war movies including:
Kelly’s Heroes, The Dawn Patrol, The Fighting 69th, and The Dirty Dozen
AMC is running a marathon hosted by John McCain.
Starting at 6:00 am
Sink the Bismarck!–British captain (Kenneth More) and Wren aide (Dana Wynter) lead 1941 chase.
8:15 am
Battle of the Bulge–Allied officers (Henry Fonda, Robert Ryan) face a German tank commander (Robert Shaw) in 1944.
12:00 pm
The Longest Day–Allied forces invade WWII Normandy on D-Day.
4:00 pm
Patton–Gen. George S. Patton (George C. Scott) fights World War II.
8:00 pm
Midway–Adm. Nimitz (Henry Fonda) and Navy officers (Charlton Heston, James Coburn) meet Yamamoto’s fleet.
11:00 pm
Hamburger Hill–Fourteen Army recruits try again and again to take a muddy hill in Vietnam
And on a serious note, here’s to all those who have passed on in service to their country and an extra prayer for those who remain safe. Let’s get them all home soon.
