th.eddie gilbertThe Next Food Network Star is more than just a cooking show. Since the winner will be hosting a TV series and representing the Food Network, it’s only fair that personality come into play and yet Teddy lives to fight another day.

In a blatant attempt to save his own butt, Teddy pulled a smackdown on teammate Debbie claiming the best dish on the table was his when it wasn’t. Did he not notice the camera crew following his every move when he praised Debbie for her contributions to the meatloaf’s seasoning and sauce? Did he think the judges would have memory issues when he clearly stated that the desert was all his at the dinner then said it wasn’t at judging? Is this really the kind of chef The Food Network wants representing them?

Obviously not, and I doubt Teddy will make it past next week, but this week his saving grace was Eddie who couldn’t do anything right. He’s been in the bottom three each week and this time around he got caught rolling his eyes and being nasty to chef Melissa which didn’t endear him to the panel, either.

All of this was great news for Katie who really doesn’t have the chops for this and Michael who is a great chef but simply fell apart this past week.

Seems to me there is a lot of dead wood this time around and I’m anxious to see them gone. Brett’s a keeper as is Jamika (despite her suggesting you reuse marrinade after soaking raw meat in it!) and I like Debbie, too. They could be the top three when all is said and done.

If you’re a fan of the Food Network and you enjoy a good laugh, check out Food Network Humor. This blogger never fails to make me laugh in this funny homage to the network and their stars.

ETA: Reading the review at Food Network Humor I was reminded of the biggest faux pas on the episode. Eddie saying that the onion and watermelon salad that everyone hated so much was a Paula Deen recipe. And sure enough HERE it is!
