Yeah, I know ripping on the Emmys is like shooting fish in a barrel with an AK-47, but Holy Cow did The Shield–the best series on TV last year–get shafted with extreme prejudice. (My review of the final season, by the way, is here.)
I yield to no one my admiration for what creator Shawn Ryan, Michael Chiklis and the rest of the gang accomplished in their final season, which is, essentially: tie together an astoundingly layered plot arc that traced back to the final scene in the pilot episode and offer each character a perfect send-off. Basically, the last episode of Season 7 of The Shield is one of the finest series finales ever aired.
And nothing for Walton Goggins, who turned in a devastating, all-in performance as hopelessly screwed, desperate, pathetic Shane.
Just a sad, sad showing by the nominating folks. Then again, these are the same geniuses responsible for Family Guy getting a nod for Best Comedy, a diabolical act that will have far-reaching, destructive cosmic repercussions.

The Shield not getting any nominations is ridiculous. Chiklis, Goggins, Jay Karnes, CCH Pounder were all incredible last season. Most of the big moments of last season (like Vic’s pause before his confession or his reaction to Shane’s photos), require no dialogue, & Chiklis’ facial expressions told the whole story.
The same idiots responsible for The Shield snub are the same ones who didn’t think The Dark Knight shouldn’t have been nominated for a Best Movie Oscar. (I guess that 1 billionth World War II Nazi film starring Kate what’s her name deserved it more, huh.) This just shows how out of touch the academy is & they wonder why their awards shows’ ratings keep getting lower every year.
Family Guy is getting an Emmy nod for Best Comedy Series (?!). If you think that’s bad, remember the time on Family Guy when they played a 2-3 minute clip of just CONWAY FREAKIN TWITTY. Now that’s the stuff Emmy nominated comedy shows are made of. I used to like Family Guy & all its pop-culture gag jokes but in the last 2 seasons, Seth Mcfarland has gotten really lazy & is using his show to shove his anti-religion & ultraliberal views down our throats.
